The Society offers research data through Institutional Membership
Institutions now have the opportunity to participate in the Society for Pediatric Sedation®! The founding members of SPS sought to improve the practice of pediatric sedation through sharing their data and ideas about current sedation practice under the auspices of the Pediatric Sedation Research Consortium (PSRC). The success of this venture, together with the rapid growth of pediatric sedation across the country and an emphasis on improved access to safe sedation care for children, led to the formation of the SPS.
Critical to the continued development of the emerging field of pediatric sedation is the need for continued data collection and research into practice patterns and performance. Since its inception the PSRC has been very productive– collecting 150,000 sedation cases in a searchable database and sponsoring three major conferences on pediatric sedation. Our data collection, storage, and quarterly performance reports have formed the basis of quality assurance/improvement efforts in over 30 hospitals across the country. We provide institutions with quarterly reports of their current and aggregate pediatric sedation performance, as well as the performance of the entire consortium, to use as a benchmark. Analysis of our data has led to multiple abstracts and peer reviewed publications and a veritable explosion of communication between different specialists that deliver this care.
Institutional membership in the SPS allows us to fund data collection and reporting. Data collection, analysis, quality improvement, and research is our primary focus. However, we also offer a means of dialogue, education and collaboration among institutions to promote best practice in pediatric sedation through an interactive website, pediatric sedation listserv, blog, newsletter, and multispecialty conferences. There are several levels of membership [link to benefits page here] from which to choose that provide you with various aspects of data.
We firmly believe that when one considers the value of all the offerings of this society, you will appreciate the modest costs associated with membership. Please consider joining us so we can continue to make the data collection and analysis service available, as well as work to make sure high quality and safe sedation is available to all children.
